Water the Calorie Wonder

The most serious problem of beverages, however, is their caloric load. An average of six glasses per day of milk, coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, fruit juices & soft drinks can add up to 800 calories or more. Since the most people drink beverages on top of generous or adequate meal, these extra calories often turn into fat cells, which are deposited in the body as fat. The connection between eating too many calories and obesity is direct & clear.
Finally, there is the caffeine problem. Many popular soft drinks contain caffeine, the most commonly used psychotropic (mind stimulating) drug. A study in Ontario Canada, revealed that 90 % of adults drank a caffeinated beverages daily. Caffeine has been associated with coronary artery (heart) disease, stomach ulcers, cancer of the urinary tract, anxiety, premature birth, stress & chronic sleep disturbances. Relatively small daily amount of caffeine, as in three to five cups of coffee or six pack cola, can cause dependence & addiction.
Caffeine interferes with fat metabolism in the body. It can precipitate asthmatic attacks & stir up allergies. Caffeine also has been shown to reduce calcium & iron absorption. It also is so irritating to the stomach that high doses will induce vomiting.
The best choice
Choosing water as your beverage will avoid the fore going problems. It has no calories to slow down digestion or add unwanted fat, no irritant to stress and distress to stomach and body, no foreign chemicals to the damage the delicate body machinery.
If you would form a good habit, drink water liberally on arising, in midmorning, midafternoon, and early evening. A drink is like an internal shower, rinsing the stomach and preparing it for its work. A twist of lemon can the early-morning drink more palatable. Frequent drinks of water also can help overcome sleepiness and the temptation to snack between meals.
Water furnishes the perfect beverages, one of our greatest blessings. Years ago Ellen white advised that it is "beverage which God provided to quench the thirst of animals and man. Drunk freely, it helps supply the necessities of the system and assist nature to resist disease".
Water is a blessing that will continue into eternity. John wrote. "The angel showed me the river of the water of life, as a clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God" (REV. 22:1, NIV).
The next time the waitress asks you, "Anything to drink", you can reply, "Yes, Ill take a glass of water to drink." It's fine; in fact, it is just perfect.
